Charles Ferdinand Ramuz

Biography

• 1878-09-24: C.F. Ramuz is born in Lausanne, Switzerland
• Ramuz studies classical literature and becomes a college teacher, but teaching does not satisfy him.
• 1903 - 1914: Ramuz lives in Paris, but returns home frequently. He is a co-founder of La Voile latine, a periodical trying to defend French culture and language against German influence. In his Paris years he develops his big themes: the loneliness of man facing nature and poetry of the soil.
• 1914: Returned to Switzerland, Ramuz is co-founder of the periodical Cahiers vaudois which is follow La Voile latine that has ceased to be published in 1910.
• 1947-05-23: Ramuz dies in Pully, near Lausanne
